Order Bumps Rules Engine: Introducing 10.0 Beta 1
We’re excited to announce that CheckoutWC 10.0 is ready for beta testing. With 10.0, we’re adding a brand new rules engine to Order Bumps and Trust Badges that will enable you to perfectly target your offers and messaging to customers. We’ve been working on this one for many months, and we hope you love it.
Order Bump Rules
We often get questions like this one:
I really like that you can offer a bump to all products, categories, or specific products… is there any chance you can add specific tags?
And the answer has always been yes, you can technically do this. But it required custom code, which we helped with a bit, of course, but what we really wanted was for you to tell us all about what you’re trying to do so we knew what to build next.
And so many of you are doing such different things that we went ahead and built an open-ended rules system for Order Bumps. With 10.0, the future is finally here:
Each Order Bump can have as many rules as needed. There are lots of options to choose from:
With all the new conditions, you can create a set of rules completely unique to your store. You can show order bumps in multiple locations and for multiple conditions. You can show a specific subset of your customers an order bump when they try to buy two hundred or more of a specific item. We don’t know what you’re going to do with it, and that’s sorta the point.
These new rules replace the Display Offer For conditions in 9.x and before. When you install 10.0, we’ll automatically migrate your bumps to the new rules engine. So, for example, if you have an existing bump configured to display for a Specific Product, we’ll automatically add a rule to the bump limiting it to that Specific Product.
(This setup required a few changes to the Upsell and Quantity Matching options. Those features not have additional fields which allow you to determine which cart product is connected to the bump.)
It also works with Trust Badges
For Trust Badges, we’ve ported over the same rules engine. Rules are configured in modal:
We’re particularly excited about the options this opens up. For example, this addition makes it easy to show specific product reviews based on the products in the cart.
Setting up new Order Bumps is now faster and easier
Lastly, we’ve also added a new Quick Setup modal for creating new Order Bumps rules:
As we’ve added new features to Order Bumps, the configuration process has gotten more complex. This quick setup helps you to configure the most essential options quickly, which will be especially useful if you’re setting up a lot of granular rules across your store.
Call for testers
We get it, it’s the holiday season and the busiest sales cycle of the year. With this in mind, we won’t be releasing 10.0 until January. But between the order bump and trust badge usage of this new rules engine, the opportunities for optimization have increased substantially. And we want you to try it out and tell us what you did before we release it to everyone else.
For those of you who have been waiting for this new functionality, we wanted to give you the ability to jump in and start using these features now by making it available as a beta.
To update to 10.0 beta, you can:
- Go to your wp-admin dashboard
- Go to CheckoutWC > Advanced
- Check the box to Enable Beta Version Updates and save your settings
- And then update CheckoutWC on your plugins page
While we think this beta is awesome, it is still a beta! Please follow best practices: test on your staging site before deploying to a live site, and make a backup. We’ve done considerable testing ourselves, but we really, really don’t want to do anything that could impact your sales over the holidays.
We’d love to talk to you
Once you’ve had a chance to take 10.0 for a spin, we’d love to hear from you. These new Order Bump conditions are so flexible that we’re not even really sure what you’re going to end up doing with it. Try it out and tell us:
- How are you using it?
- What else do you wish it could do?
- What cool and interesting thing were you able to accomplish?
- Or even, what should we have built instead?
We’d love to talk to you (either via email or by getting you on a call with a few members of our team!) If you’re on our email list, we’ll send you a calendar link directly to schedule at your convenience. Otherwise, get in touch here with any questions or feedback or suggestions!
